Pays le plus peuplé d’Asie centrale, l’Ouzbékistan compte plus de 34 M° d’habitant (01.02.2020) avec un niveau d’urbanisation de 51,4 %. La majorité (80%) des citoyens de l’Ouzbékistan sont les ouzbeks parlant ouzbek, une langue de groupe turque de la famille des langues altaïques. Parmi plus de 100 nationalités sur la terre ouzbèk, les minorités sont représentées par les russes (environs 6%), les tadjiks (environ 5%), les kazakhs (environ 4%), les Karakalpaks (environ 2%). La population ouzbèk est jeune (33% de moins de 15 ans) et musulmane sunnite à près de 90%. La langue officielle est l’ouzbek, mais dans la vie quotidienne, le russe est utilisé comme la deuxième langue véhiculaire. L’anglais ou le français sont peu parlés.
