Geografia dell'Uzbekistan

L'Uzbekistan è un paese dell'Asia centrale con una superficie di 447.400 km². Si estende per 930 km da nord a sud, 1.425 km da ovest a est. L'Uzbekistan è delimitato a nord dal Kazakistan (oltre 2.203 km), a est dal Kirghizistan (oltre 1.099 km) e dal Tagikistan (oltre 1.161 km), a sud dall'Afghanistan (oltre 137 km) e infine a sud-ovest dal Turkmenistan (oltre 1621 km). È l'unico paese ad avere confini con tutti i paesi della regione. In questo senso, è il crocevia naturale dell'Asia centrale. Un terzo della superficie dell'Uzbekistan è coperto da montagne (est e sud-est) e il resto dal deserto sabbioso e arido di Kyzilkoum, drenato dai fiumi Amou-darya e Syr-darya. A ovest, oltre il delta dell'Amu Darya, si trova l'altopiano del deserto di Ustyurt. La metà orientale è occupata da ricche colline e vallate, separate dalle catene montuose di Tian Chian e da quelle del Turkestan-Zerafshan. La vetta più alta raggiunge i 4300 m.
