The Gur-e- Amir Masoleum is a one-cupola building. It is an octahedral building crowned by an azure fluted dome.The exterior decoration of the walls consists of the blue , light blue and white tiles organized into geometrical and epigraphic ornaments against a background terracota bricks.

 

Shah-i-Zinda is a necropolis that consists of rows of blue tombs and various mausoleums. A unique ensemble of ancient tombs is located Afrasiab Settlement. Building of mosque and masoleums oddly stretched on both sides and their blue domes look like an elegant necklace from the top.Shah -i- Zinda is the burial place of royal represents and nobles, however,the main masoleum from which the necropolis starts seems to be the imaginary grave of Prophet Muhammad`s cousin Kusama ibn Abbas.

The Bibi Khanym Mosque is one of the most important monuments of Samarkand. It was named after the wife of Timur the Great. Its arch was flanked with powerful pylons , with minarets up to 50m in height. The gates were made priceless stones but it was taken away from Iranian Shah Nadir. Today, the marble lectern for the tremendous Koran made at Ulugbek stands in the centre of the courtyard.

The Registan is the symbol of Samarkand the heart of old town a huge square in the old majestic place stand three unique medieval monuments: Ulugbek, Sherdor (madrasah with Lions) and Tilla Kori (Gold covered)  This central square the most iconic sight of Samarkand and Uzbekistan. All the main roads of Samarkand lead to Registan as it was the heart of the Timurid dynasty.
